Recent data from Lands of America shows $550 million in land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale for sale in Washington. This represents a total of 63,003 acres of land for sale in the state. The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $70 million, while the median price for land and rural property for sale in Washington came in at $536,954. The average price of land and ranches for sale in Washington was $910,026. There was 294 acres of sold land in Washington recorded in May 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from April 2018. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $3.1 million. Thirty-three wildlife management areas cover almost a million acres of land in Washington and offer hunters access to game species including waterfowl, grouse, pheasant, elk and wild turkey. Sockeye salmon, steelhead and bass as well as numerous saltwater fish species are on the hook for anglers. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Washington. The financial publication Kiplinger has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including property and income taxes, health care and cost of living. Of the 39 counties in the state, Lewis County had the most land and acreage for sale. In terms of its size, Washington is the country's 18th-largest state, covering an area of 71,303 square miles (46 million acres). In total, 66,456 square miles (93 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 4,842 square miles is covered by water.
